That’s according to CeADAR, Ireland’s Centre for AI, which has released analysis giving a thorough overview of the pivotal trends in artificial intelligence (AI) in 2023. Funded by Enterprise Ireland and the IDA, CeADAR’s primary focus is on delivering AI services to industry.

The document – AI Roundup 2023 with Trends & Projections for 2024 – says businesses are poised for significant transformations in 2024 as they prioritise full automation, AI training for staff and rush to market with new products in an evolving AI landscape that presents opportunities and challenges.

Data for the report was drawn from AI NewsHub, CeADAR’s digital news platform for global developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning. AI NewsHub curates AI news and features from reputable and clearly identifiable media sources globally.
CeADAR analysed 14,958 AI-related news articles published in 2023 and found that the key trends in AI news were a focus on machine learning, generative technologies such as ChatGPT, new product launches, the impact of big tech companies like Google and Microsoft, and ethical considerations regarding the societal impact and potential risks associated with AI technologies.
The report’s forecast for 2024 is that businesses will prioritise full automation across their entire operations to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
Businesses are also expected to boost staff training to equip their employees with the skills to leverage AI capabilities and to prepare for compliance with emerging AI legislation.
It says start-ups and established corporations alike are eager to capitalise on AI-driven innovations to gain a competitive edge and an anticipated rush to market with AI-powered products and services will have to balance the need for innovation with robust security protocols in 2024.
