DPD is dedicated to driving eco-friendly practices in the logistics business.
DPD Ireland has delivered its 10-millionth parcel using electric vehicles (EV).
And, with the onset of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and of course Christmas driving even more deliveries, the business has ambitious goals to deliver a further 10m parcels to be delivered in the next six months.
“Currently Dublin, Galway and Limerick cities are 100% electric deliveries”
DPD Ireland is one of Ireland’s leading parcel delivery companies, operating across 36 depots nationally and delivering over 45m parcels in 2023.
Since the introduction of electric vehicles into its fleet, DPD Ireland has made remarkable strides in decreasing its carbon footprint, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment for the communities it serves.
Driving a greener future
The integration of EVs into daily operations is a critical component of DPD Ireland’s broader sustainability strategy, which aims to significantly reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency across all aspects of its business.
By prioritising green initiatives, DPD Ireland is setting a benchmark for the industry and demonstrating that sustainable practices can go hand-in-hand with operational excellence.
“Reaching 10m parcels delivered by electric vehicles is a testament to our ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation and reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team,” said Des Travers, CEO of DPD Ireland.
“Currently Dublin, Galway and Limerick cities are 100% electric deliveries. Our investment in electric vehicles not only supports our environmental goals but also sets a new standard in the logistics industry. We will continue to explore and implement sustainable solutions to ensure a greener future for all.”
DPD Ireland is working towards transitioning 70% of all vehicles to electric by 2030, leading to a 65% reduction in emissions in 10 years versus its 2020 baseline.
The company’s fleet of electric vehicles has been steadily growing, supported by the company’s investment in charging infrastructure and advanced logistics technology. This enables efficient route planning and maximises the range and effectiveness of each vehicle.
“Today marks another step in our journey toward a greener, more sustainable future. I am honoured to receive the 10th million parcel delivered by a DPD electric vehicle, which is a testament to the innovative efforts of companies like DPD Ireland in reducing carbon emissions and supporting environmental responsibility, in line with our important carbon reduction goals,” said Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke.
“I commend Des Travers and the entire DPD Ireland team for their commitment to sustainability, demonstrating that business and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.”
