Diversity, equity and inclusion
Sinead Bailey Kelly, co-founder of H&G Creations gives the low down on trends we’ll see at events in 2024.
She said there will be a focus on belonging versus inclusion. “It isn’t enough to be inclusive if that means that your voice still isn’t heard, welcomed or valued. That’s why the topic of belonging is one to watch in the year ahead.
“Belonging is different. If you’ve ever moved to a new city, started a new job or walked into an event where you didn’t know anyone, you’ve experienced the difference between being included (invited) and feeling that you belong. You don’t truly feel you belong until you meaningfully connect with others and believe that you’re a part of something bigger than yourself – a community, family or industry. Belonging is the next evolution in diversity, equity and inclusion.”
She added that building human connections will also be a driving force. “Creating events that hold space to foster human connection. Whether through structured activities, spontaneous interactions, or shared interests, these moments form the foundation of a vibrant and memorable event, leaving participants with lasting impressions and a sense of community.”
But crucially sustainability will be at the forefront of event planning. “Sustainable event planning involves incorporating practices that minimise environmental impact, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and sourcing ethically and locally.
“These efforts align with broader societal and governmental goals to combat climate change and promote responsible business practices.
“They worked closely with the event delivery team to ensure that we eliminate single use plastic, reduce food waste, and prioritise working with local suppliers during the event.”
