Irish digital economy to grow to €16bn in sales

Digital Business Ireland recommends that B2B online sales remains the big opportunity for businesses in Ireland.

Online sales in Ireland are forecast to reach €16bn in 2024, according to Digital Business Ireland, the country’s largest representative body for digital and online businesses.

The organisation contends that B2B online sales remains the big opportunity for discerning businesses in Ireland.

“The continued upward trajectory of online sales in Ireland is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of our digital economy”

This optimistic forecast is based on a robust performance in 2023, where digital sales surged to €14.3bn, marking a €1.6bn increase from 2022 (Source: Statista).

It is also underpinned by a range of factors, including increased consumer confidence in online shopping, advancements in cybersecurity and digital payment solutions, and the ongoing evolution of digital marketing strategies.

A more connected society reaps digital rewards

“Recent trends are showing that growth could be extended further, as more and more and more retailers and suppliers are seeing the endless possibilities with digital propagation of their goods and services,” the chair of Digital Business Ireland, Caroline Dunlea stated.

“With further homes connected to 5G broadband through the National Broadband Plan and Digital Accessibility regulations likely to unlock 600,000 additional customers, the future of digital sales is extremely positive.”

Dunlea said Digital Business Ireland is committed to supporting its members through this period of growth, providing resources, advocacy, and networking opportunities to help digital and online businesses thrive.

The organisation encourages businesses of all sizes to leverage the tools and support available to them to maximise their online sales potential.

“The continued upward trajectory of online sales in Ireland is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of our digital economy. With nearly €16bn in online sales projected for 2024, it’s clear that the digital sector is a major driver of economic growth.”
