Roscommon native Dermot Mee, chief operating officer of Singularity, this week shared his insights into global scaling strategies with local business leaders in Galway.

Mee attended the launch of SCALE by Platform94, a community of scaling technology businesses throughout the West of Ireland.

“I am incredibly impressed with the calibre of businesses emerging from this region”

He addressed a full house at the event, “Building for Scale – Strategic Operations for Sustainable Growth,” which was organised by Platform94 and the University of Galway Innovation Office.

Scaling the West’s potential

This scaling community initiative led by Platform94, at inception, includes over 30 indigenous technology companies employing more than 610 people across sectors such as AI, medtech, biotech, SaaS, cyber security, spacetech, agtech, fintech, digital transformation, and tech consulting.

Mee is a native of Roscommon and a graduate of the University of Galway.

Singularity, founded in 2008 at NASA Ames Research Park in California in collaboration with NASA, Google, Autodesk, and ePlanet Ventures, has inspired leaders worldwide to harness exponential technologies for solving humanity’s most pressing challenges. Its global reach includes over 70,000 leaders from diverse sectors such as technology, healthcare, finance, and education.

“It’s a privilege to be back home in the west of Ireland. I am incredibly impressed with the calibre of businesses emerging from this region,” Mee told the assembled business leaders.

“The global potential of these companies is undeniable, and it’s exciting to see such innovation and ambition coming out of the west of Ireland. Giving back to this region, which shaped me, is incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to seeing these businesses make a global impact.”

In addition to his keynote, Dermot met with eight scaling companies from the region, offering tailored advice on scaling operations and global growth. His visit underscored Platform94’s commitment to driving the success of ambitious companies throughout the west, northwest and beyond.

The CEO of Platform94 Marie Donnellan said that Dermot’s visit marked a significant moment for the region’s growing tech ecosystem.

“Having Dermot share his expertise with our scaling community is an invaluable opportunity. His depth of experience in scaling operations globally resonated deeply. His visit is a testament to the power of connection, and his support for the region’s growing ecosystem is an inspiration for our companies striving to expand internationally.”

On the launch of ‘SCALE by Platform94’, Donnellan said: “By fostering a collaborative community like ‘SCALE by Platform94’, we are empowering our fantastic regional businesses to grow together, sharing knowledge, resources, and networks. Together, we believe that we can position the west of Ireland as a global hub of innovation.”
